Premise: This story takes place in a future where a cataclysmic solar event has rendered earth’s atmosphere into a mass of electrical energy called the Aether. Storms from the Aether are deadly, leaving behind scorched and ruined earth and killing anyone or anything in its path. In order to escape the Aether, humans have come to live in pod-like cities, where they spend their days visiting virtual Realms and know little hardship. But some humans remained outside in the real world, learning to survive the storms.

Arial is a Dweller, raised inside a city pod. Perry is an Outsider, savage and skilled in survival. The two meet when Perry saves Arial from a vicious attack, and then later when she is exiled to the outside world. Their initial distrust and hatred for each other slowly becomes respect and finally attraction as they make their way to see a person who they believe can help Aria find her mother and help Perry find his young cousin, who has been kidnapped by the Dwellers. Along the way they must fight cannibals, dodge Aether storms, escape from wolves, and learn to trust each other.

Potential Points of Concern:

Arial is attacked by a fellow Dweller when the boy seems to suffer a psychotic break. Perry manages to save her before she is severely injured.

Arial is cast out of her pod city and left to die by a powerful government official whose son attacked Arial. He knows that Arial could implicate his son and sends her into the real world where he believes she will quickly die.

Perry is a skilled fighter and uses deadly force to defend himself and Arial.

Perry and Arial consummate their relationship but this is left very vague, with no graphic description at all.

Age Appropriateness:  13 +
